Positive news as 250 jobs head to NI
11/02/2009
Amidst the economic gloom that has put pressure on businesses in Northern Ireland (NI) forcing them to lay off staff, some good news has come to workers in the region, solicitors in Belfast may be interested to hear.
Some 250 jobs are to be created in the province by retail giant Tesco following the approval of a multimillion pound redevelopment proposal by the Coleraine Town Council, according to reports.
In addition to retail jobs, construction workers in the region also stand to benefit as some short-term construction jobs will be created, reports the BBC.
The news provider reports that Gary Mills, the director for Tesco Northern Ireland, said that the proposals were made following three years of consultation with local residents.
"We would like to assure our neighbours that we will continue to consult with them throughout the construction process and once the new store is up and running," he said.
Meanwhile, NI solicitors may find themselves dealing with increasing redundancy related cases after figures indicated that the number of people out of work in the UK is approaching two million.
