People in Northern Ireland who have recently been made redundant will be offered support from the country's executive, giving them the opportunity to find more work.

That is according to Sir Reg Empey, the Northern Ireland Executive's minister for employment, who says that jobless people will not be forgotten about.

"Whilst I cannot generate jobs or employment, I can assure you that all efforts will be made by my officials to provide support for those individuals who have been made redundant," he commented.

The minister went on to say that information about training, along with details concerning new job opportunities, will be made available from the government department that he is responsible for.

Last month, Sir Reg also gave his backing to the Apprentice of the Year Awards 2010, which is being run by his department.

The scheme aims to highlight the good work that is being undertaken by apprentices and their employers in Northern Ireland.
