Firms 'may use social networking' to assess job candidates
02/02/2010
Some businesses might opt to make use of social networking sites in the future, in order to assess potential employees during their recruitment process, according to one expert.
People looking for work opportunities in Northern Ireland and across other UK regions may be keen to note the view of Jobsite's group marketing director Felix Wetzel.
Mr Wetzel suggests that jobseekers should be careful about the impression that is given by their online profiles.
For instance, it might not prove beneficial for people to cast a negative light on previous companies they have worked for, he notes.
However, while highlighting the potential use of social networking, the expert added: "I think it will always be used alongside other methods such as CVs, telephone interviews, assessment days and references".
Meanwhile, research from Microsoft UK has found that online profiles have led to job candidates being dismissed by as many as 41 per cent of the HR managers queried in a poll by the firm.
