Apprenticeships 'offer an alternative to uni study'
02/02/2010
Young people in Northern Ireland and other regions of the UK might benefit from taking part in an apprenticeship scheme, which may prove to be a useful alternative to university study, an expert suggests.
According to NotGoingtoUni.co.uk's Craig Abrahart, apprenticeships offer people the chance to get involved in a wide array of employment-related activities.
Touching upon the issue of cutbacks within the higher education sector, Mr Abrahart, the advice website's operations director, commented: "Having a viable alternative is imperative in getting young people into work and making them feel valued."
The expert went on to say that apprenticeships frequently prove more than a short-term employment solution, as he believes that "80 per cent of people that undertake apprenticeships actually end up in a full time job".
National Apprenticeship Week is currently being marked a number of UK employers, with the awareness scheme set to run until February 5th.
