Broadband services 'have helped UK's e-commerce sector'
03/02/2010
The UK's e-commerce sector has benefited from increased broadband use among consumers, it has been highlighted.
According to the Interactive Media in Retail Group's director of operations David Smith, broadband has enabled a number of online shoppers to interact more effectively with retail sites.
Commenting on internet shopping trends in the UK, he noted: "By 2020 we are going to have a situation where 90 per cent of retailing is going to be influenced by what, at the moment, you would call 'online'."
The ongoing development of new mobile applications could have a hand in this growth, Mr Smith also remarked.
Meanwhile, online retailers in regions of the UK such as Northern Ireland may be keen to note the findings of a new Kelkoo/Centre for Retail Research study.
It revealed that, in 2009, around £38 billion was spent on the web by shoppers based in the UK.
