Irish authorities defer income tax cuts

07/11/2007
The Irish government is understood to be considering a cut in income tax that could stimulate further growth of the economy south of the border.

According to a report in the Belfast Telegraph, the Irish authorities have been looking into the potential to cut income tax rates, but any decision on the matter is now likely to be deferred due to the country's struggling public finances.

Last year, the country's finance minister said that he would look to cut income tax if the public coffers allowed, but a deterioration in the public purse appears to have scuppered those plans.

A cut in income tax in southern Ireland could have resulted in many solicitors in Northern Ireland seeing more people looking to move south of the border in order to make the most of their money.
