Silver car case continues

21/01/2008
Solicitors in Northern Ireland have been hearing new medical evidence in the case where a woman claims that she was pursued by a man in a silver car, who deliberately tried to run her over.

Andrea Hall of Northern Ireland contacted her solicitors after she says Francis Paul McCormick attempted to run her down in Coleraine's Ashbourne Park in October 2005.

Ms Hall's solicitors are trying to prove that Mr McCormick is guilty of causing criminal injuries, after their client spent time in a Belfast hospital and says she has also been mentally scarred.

According to the Belfast Telegraph, Dr Andrew James Johnson, from the orthopaedics and trauma unit of the Royal Victoria Hospital, told the court that Ms Hall had suffered temporary quadriplegia after the incident.

Dr Johnson said: "She spent eight days in hospital, it was serious", although he confirmed Ms Hall had not undergone surgery.

Another medical expert involved with the case, Dr Martin McClenaghan, added that Ms Hall suffered with "flashbacks, panic and anxiety" following the event.

He confirmed Ms Hall had been prescribed "anti-depressants to improve her mood and calm the anxiety".

Solicitors for the defence claim that Ms Hall's account of events does not tally with that of her fiance, Patrick McGowan, who was also present at the incident.
