The right insurance policy can protect against neighbourly disputes
28/04/2008
Householders should be looking out for insurance policies which offer legal protection against disputes with neighbours, according to the Association of British Insurers (ABI).
Kelly Ostler-Coyle, ABI spokesperson, said that insurance of this type should be taken out "to protect against the unexpected".
"If you think [that] if you were to get into a legal argument you would not be able to afford those expenses, then it is something you should be thinking about when you take out your home insurance policy," she added.
A recent study from Allianz insurance found that more than 1.1 million householders have argued with their neighbours about noise.
Of the 3,000 interviewed by the insurer, a third had had an argument with their neighbour, with around 16 per cent blaming noise or loud music for the disagreement.
