'Some workers face sexual abuse'
08/05/2008
A number of migrant and vulnerable employees face sexual abuse in the workplace, according to the Trade Union Congress (TUC).
Research from the body has found that such workers face a wide range of potential abuses.
Secretary general of the TUC Brendan Barber told the BBC that some vulnerable workers faced "physical, even sexual abuse from their employers".
Other abuses that the organisation's research had revealed included "not treating them with the most basic dignity and respect paying them well, well below the minimum wage, sometimes requiring them to work excessive hours, 70 hours a week", he said.
And some workers do not get any paid holiday.
The TUC has set up a commission into vulnerable employment and the results of the survey will be used to inform government and policymakers on how best to protect those at risk.
