Northern Ireland 'an attractive investment opportunity'
12/05/2008
Northern Ireland represents an attractive opportunity for investment for overseas companies, according to Shaun Woodward.
The Northern Ireland secretary told BBC Radio 4's World at One programme that despite higher levels of corporation tax in the UK than in the Republic, there are "huge amounts" of foreign investment coming into the country.
"That's because [of] the fundamentals of the UK economy and [because] people actually want to invest in the UK," he commented.
Business owners can make decisions "with confidence" in a "stable and prosperous" future for Northern Ireland, Mr Woodward added.
Commercial property is much cheaper in the north, with office space costing £15 per square foot to rent, as opposed to £50 a square foot in Dublin.
Solicitors in Northern Ireland can offer advice to businesses wishing to relocate to the area.
The rate of corporation tax in the UK is 28 per cent compared to 12.5 per cent in the Republic of Ireland.
