Diverse views over commercial property recovery
23/06/2008
There are a variety of views surrounding when the commercial property market will recover, a new survey has found.
According to research from REITA - an organisation established by commercial property companies to support the introduction of Real Estate Investment Trusts - many advisers disagree on when recovery in the property market will take place.
Of those advisers and solicitors questioned, some 54 per cent said that the current problems in the economy in Great Britain and Northern Ireland were short-term whereas 27 per cent believed there would be a recession.
Views among the representatives from 24 major investment and property organisations varied significantly, with 58 per cent believing a recovery would take place in 2009, 27 per cent predicting recovery this year while 8 per cent thought 2010 was a more realistic estimate.
The organisation also says that it is unclear how strong tenant demand will be to let commercial property in the UK, including Northern Ireland.
Property Week has carried out a similar poll which found that 31 per cent of readers believed that the property market as a whole would recover by the end of 2009, 30 per cent forecast recovery by the middle of 2009, while 29 per cent predicted no recovery would happen until 2010.
