14/07/2008
Firms in Great Britain and Northern Ireland need to ensure they and their staff are kept up-to-date with employment law regulations in order to protect themselves from legal action it has been claimed.
In an article in Retail Week, Alison Clements reports that Human Resources (HR) teams at major companies such as Harvey Nicols go to periodic updates with solicitors on employment law and the implications for their profession.
HR staff at the store then report the details of the updates back to employees, Ms Clements reveals.
The article also advises companies to distribute pamphlets or leaflets on legislation which might affect the way they work.
Asking employees to sign a receipt saying they have both received and read this information can also help to avoid legal action with solicitors, Ms Clements tells the publication.
The Northern Ireland Labour Relations agency has said that frequent changes in employment law can make it difficult to follow, adding that the body receives some 30,000 calls on regulations each year.
