Alternative model 'could speed up disputes'
31/07/2008
An alternative model for resolving disputes could see the process speeded up considerably, it has been suggested.
According to a draft consultation document, professionals should be fully trained and accredited and ready to deal more swiftly with instances of dispute in order to prevent the need for it to come before an Irish court.
The document has been drafted by Justice Peter Kelly and he has invited relevant parties to contribute their views on the 36 provisional recommendations within it.
While everyone has access to the courts, improving the way civil disputes are dealt with could ultimately be beneficial for those involved as well as the courts themselves, the Irish Times reports.
Meanwhile, as long as they did not conflict with existing laws, there is no reason why sharia law should not operate in parts of the UK, the lord chief justice Lord Phillips told the London Muslim Council recently.
