Northern Ireland Golfer struck by ball reaches compensation settlement

By Gillian Crotty

A Northern Ireland teenage golfer who was struck on the head by a stray golf ball will receive £125,000 compensation.

The teenager, who cannot be named, was on the first green at Portstewart Golf Club's Riverside Course 10 years ago when a ball struck him on the head. Negligence was alleged against the Trustees of Portstewart Golf Club, with claims that there were not sufficient warning signs in place. A settlement was reached during the hearing at the High Court in Belfast, though there was no admission of liability. The teenager will receive £125,000 in damages.
