Kenny court case reaches settlement

Irish broadcaster Pat Kenny has settled a legal action with his neighbours over who owns a strip of land behind his house.

Mr Kenny agreed to buy the land following a warning issued to both him and the Charltons that high court action would be "bitter and costly".

He has stated that he will maintain the land as a nature reserve.

The dispute initially arose over the Charltons' claims that they were the original owners of the land, with the Kennys asserting that they could claim squatters' rights as they had been using the land since 1991.

Ms Justice Harding Clark, who presided over the case, said she was very happy with the outcome and agreed to a request from both sides to strike out the Charlton claim and the Kenny counter-claim, and to make an order vacating all previous legal cost orders.
