'Tyrone Crystal Giftware' company for sale
While there has been no official statement from representatives of 'Tyrone Crystal Giftware', it has been reported that employees of the company in Dungannon were advised last Friday that the business is to be sold. It is not thought that a deal has been struck as yet, but accountants BDO are helping to market the company to prospective buyers in England and Ireland according to the Belfast Telegraph.
The news will come as a large blow to the Dungannon community who have benefited over the years from employment in the factory and from the visitors brought to the town to see the giftstore and factory with its glass-blowing demonstrations. The business is currently owned by a group led by Peter Maginnis and Nigel Blackburn and employs 37 staff.
It is thought that changing tastes are to account for the large decline in interest in the crystal products made by the company. The gifts were a regular feature at weddings, retirements and other special occasions throughout Northern Ireland for many years, though recently sales of the crystal products have been in decline.
Drew Nesbitt a Commercial Solicitor with Wilson Nesbitt solicitors commented "Under employment legislation employee jobs must be protected save in the case of restructuring. New ownership may ensure that the plant continues as a going concern."
