Acas launching revised grievance policies
Disputes in the workplace may be made easier to solve by new guidance on grievances and dismissals, the employment advisory service claims.
The new code, produced by Acas, is now open for public consultation and takes into account the changes enforced by the Employment Bill.
Minister for employment relations Pat McFadden says that the code is aimed to benefit both employers and their staff by helping to 'streamline and simplify' dispute resolution.
"It will complement the removal of statutory measures by establishing flexible, principles-based guidance to help resolve disputes early," Ms McFadden predicts.
John Taylor, Acas chief executive, says that in solving problems within the workplace "the key is for business to act early to prevent any long-term consequences".
Under current regulations, when an employee is dismissed without the statutory procedures being followed, their dismissal is treated as automatically unfair.
