Employment increase in Northern Ireland 'bucks UK trend'
At the end of the first quarter, the number of people in paid work in Northern Ireland was at a record level.
Unemployment in the province stands at a seasonally-adjusted figure of 3.9 per cent, down from 4.4 per cent the previous quarter.
This is compared with the UK unemployment rate which currently stands at 5.3 per cent, and the EU rate which was at 6.7 per cent in March.
Figures from the Quarterly Employment Survey found that there was a net increase if 1,380 jobs filled over the quarter and 10,630 over the past year.
According to an article in the Independent, Northern Ireland is now seeking to attract talented graduates from the rest of the UK to fill highly-skilled jobs which are becoming available there.
The Citi group has moved some of its operations to Belfast, which it describes as "a vibrant, exciting place to work" and benefiting from a good education system and a lower cost of living.
