Tycoon's wife to hand secret files to the taxman
Michelle Young, the wife currently in the process of divorcing tycoon Scot Young, is to hand a computer disk containing hundreds of pages of emails and other documents detailing her husbands finances to HM Revenue & Customs.
Ms Young retrieved the data from a computer her husband gave her, believing he had first cleaned it of any sensitive information, to help their children study for exams. She hired private detectives, including the former Head of Scotland Yard's computer crime unit, to go through the computer and it was they who recovered the encrypted material detailing her husbands various business dealings. The information is thought to include details of transactions involving the sale of 15 properties, including half a dozen mansions in Belgravia, central London.
The quest to find out the location of Mr Young's fortune, if it still exists, has come about after the tycoon, who was previously estimated to be worth £400million, claimed he was broker after a series of bad business deals. He declared himself bankrupt and ran up a £2million debt to HMRC. He has received a suspended six month jail sentence for not disclosing full details of the location of his money.
Mr Young has not yet paid a penny of the £27,500 a month in maintenance his wife was awarded in December 2009, to be paid on top of rent and school fees for her daughters.
Michelle Young said:
"I have been humiliated. He has stolen the last three years of our lives. We are just living one day at a time. He is eating in the finest restaurants with beautiful young models while my girls don’t know their futures."
