Food sector funds 'promising for employment'

Employment solicitors in Northern Ireland could be set for a business boost as a substantial cash injection for the food processing sector has been announced.

Unveiling plans for the £9 million Fermanagh fund, enterprise minister Nigel Dodds claimed it would underpin the success of the county's food sector and also set the pace for further development.

He visited Lisnaskea's Western Brand Poultry and Kerry Foods in Enniskillen to announce the investment, which is being backed by Invest Northern Ireland.

Western, he noted, has capitalised on expertise in the area to further develop an already successful business.

"It is very encouraging to hear that the company is progressing well against targets agreed with Invest NI, particularly in relation to employment levels," he remarked.

Mr Dodds also underlined the significance of the funds by pointing out that the food industry is one of Northern Ireland's most successful sectors.

The investment, being made by Western Brand Poultry's parent company, Western Brand of County Mayo, is being financially assisted by around £500,000 from Invest NI.
