Negligence compensation for unnecessary surgery
A woman has received £50,000 in medical negligence compensation after undergoing an unnecessary and radical hysterectomy because her smear test results were read incorrectly.
Claire Millward, aged 37 from Northampton, was advised she had cervical cancer. Mrs Millward has one child and was trying for another when she was advised that she would need to undergo a hysterectomy. It was subsequently discovered that the results of the smear test were not read correctly, and Mrs Millward brought a claim against the hospital for medical negligence.
The hospital admitted liability for the incident and apologised for their mistake. Mrs Millward was awarded £50,000 in medical negligence compensation.
