Lack of Hips 'breaking law'
A number of estate agents are breaking the law by failing to provide home information packs (Hips) to buyers, it has been claimed.
The Law Society believes potential buyers are often not being given Hips until after a sale is complete, meaning they are unaware of some of the details of a property - for example its energy efficiency rating - until they have bought it.
President of the society Paul Marsh told BBC Radio 4's Today programme: "These Hips are being ordered and not being processed. They are being suspended until such time as a buyer is found.
"I don't think it is within the spirit of the regulations. Actually, I don't think it is within the regulations," 24dash.com quotes.
Nick Salmon, board member of the National Association of Estate Agents, told the Today programme that while the group did not condone the behaviour of certain agents, it is understandable, 24dash.com reports.
In Northern Ireland compulsory energy performance certificates have been introduced.
