When there is a business case to expand or develop an area of practice the firm will have opportunities for solicitors including newly qualified solicitors.
Support Staff:
The firm has ongoing requirements for staff to assist our solicitors and paralegals. Our requirement is for good GCSE or vocational training qualifications, competent keyboard skills, preferably "A" levels or equivalent and perhaps even a general degree. Support staff with the requisite skills, experience, qualifications and intellect may be able to move to paralegal posts. From time to time we have accounts, reception and other specialist requirements.
Work shadowing:
The firm has a number of available places throughout the year (except during July and August when the Courts are closed) for law students to work shadow our solicitors for a week. Where possible students are given the opportunity to shadow solicitors with different specialities each day. At different times throughout the year work shadow weeks are available to school students contemplating a possible legal career. The firm does not pay any salary to students attending work shadow weeks.
Summer Jobs:
The firm often offers summer job opportunities to law students who are keen to understand more about how a law firm works. Unfortunately we are not currently in a position to know whether we will be offering summer placements this year and would refer you to our website https://wilson-nesbitt.erecruit.co.uk/erecruit/company/jobs.do for vacancies which may arise.
The scheme perimeters are:-
- Minimum of a ten week commitment to the firm by the students.
- The work is not legal work on files but administrative work embracing telephone and reception duties, archiving old files, auditing deeds and Will inventories and other "good housekeeping" administrative tasks requiring annual action.
- As the chores are real and important to the firm there is a basis to evaluate students for reference purposes having regard to their reliability, responsibility, organisational and communication skills.
- Students will be trained in and expected to use the firms IT software as part of their duties.
- Wilson Nesbitt pays a salary to those on summer placements.
Paralegal Jobs:
The firm currently employs 18 paralegals. The minimum academic requirement is A-Level or equivalent attainment. The overwhelming majority of the firm's paralegals have degrees and some have law degrees. These jobs are in the areas of debt recovery, repossession, employment, estate administration, will writing, residential conveyancing, remortgage, personal injury and family law work. These are permanent career positions although some positions are available to law graduates wishing to experience legal work and a law firm environment as a stepping stone to obtaining an Institute place or a training contract provided a twelve month minimum commitment is made to the firm. Almost all the paralegal positions involve daily client contact and case load responsibility under the supervision and direction of Solicitors.
