Malignant pleural mesothelioma is a type of cancer that is almost exclusively a consequence of exposure to asbestos. Mesothelioma is a relatively slow growing tumour that most commonly originates in the parietal pleura, the membrane lining the chest cavity. Symptoms include pain in the chest or breathlessness due to increased pleural fluid, but symptoms may be absent or develop subtly. Diagnosis of the disease can be difficult.
If you were exposed to asbestos and suffer from an illness as result, you may be entitled to compensation. You may also be entitled to claim compensation in the USA through one of the many Bankruptcy Trusts set up to deal with these claims arising out of exposure to certain asbestos products that were used widely in Northern Ireland in a variety of industrial settings.
