Belfast most affordable UK city for house purchasers

By Christine Farrell

New research has revealed that Belfast and Hull are the two most affordable cities to purchase a property in the UK when house prices are compared to local salaries.

Taking into account the average salaries, typical mortgage multiples, and property sale prices, were able to compile a league table of the top 50 cities in the UK in terms of how affordable it is for local people to buy local properties. Average house prices in Belfast are said to be just over 2 times the combined salaries of local couples, and 90 per cent of the average Belfast properties would be affordable for an average couple working in Belfast.

London is understandably the least affordable of all the UK cities, with only 25 per cent of the average homes within the reach of the average London couple.
