Wife accused of stabbing husband

In news that may be of interest to solicitors in Belfast dealing with divorce and family law, a woman has been accused of calmly knifing her husband and handing him a kitchen roll to cover the wound.

Kathleen McCleery has been accused in a case before the Belfast Crown Court of stabbing husband Andrew McCleery after an argument and handing him the roll then uttering: "You'll need that."

In an opening statement before a jury hearing the case against the 43-year-old, prosecution lawyer David McClean stated that once the jury heard all the evidence she would be found guilty.

The incident is said to have happened following an argument between the two, which resulted in Mr McCleery retiring in his bedroom and locking the door, the Belfast Telegraph reports.

However, an hour later he opened the door for her after she appeared to have calmed down but she proceeded to stab him in the stomach and utter the words, the jury was told.

PSNI figures covering April to November 2008 show that recorded incidents of domestic violence are down across Northern Ireland by 3.3 per cent.
