UK 'divorce fair' for splitting couples

Couples from all over the UK, including Northern Ireland, who plan to divorce are being invited to the country's first 'divorce fair'.

Solicitors, counsellors and financial advisors will all be on hand to explain and advise on how the process works.

In 2006 there were some 12.2 divorcing people per 1,000 married persons and this fair is intended to make things easier for people considering legal separation.

The exhibition will be called the Starting Over Show and, according to organisers is aimed at giving a fresh start to separating couples.

Suzy Miller, fair producer, told the Telegraph: "From the people I have spoken to, they have said, 'God I wish something like this was around when I broke up'."

She commented to the Argus Lite that there is a need for such an event because more than 140,000 couples divorce each year.

The one-day event will be held at Brighton Race Course on October 11th and has so far attracted 20 potential exhibitors.
