Case update - celebrity guilty of harassment

Celebrity comic Justin Lee Collins has been found guilty of harassing his ex-girlfriend Anna Larke, and has been sentenced to carry out 140 hours of unpaid work within the next 18 months.

The court case came shortly after the announcement of an expansion of the interpretation of what constitutes domestic abuse, though that definition will not be adopted for several months. The new interpretation will catch behaviour that is intended to coerce and exert control, and does not require physical violence to have taken place. During the case, Ms Larke accused Mr Collins of carrying out regular emotional and domestic abuse, including allegations of violence and threats of violence. In a statement after the decision, Ms Larke and her family said they would " go out into the world and use this experience to empower women to stand up to domestic abuse."
