E-commerce sector 'likely to perform well' this year

The UK's e-commerce sector should continue to perform well over the course of this year, according to one expert.

IMRG's chief executive James Roper believes that enhancements that are being made to existing online shopping provisions are likely to play a part in this.

Among the improved services that may be seen, he notes that "wider product range availability, even better websites and a greater choice of convenient and more reliable delivery options" are likely.

The comments made by Mr Roper follow the publication of the latest IMRG Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index.

The index has revealed that there was a 17 per cent rise in internet sales between December 2008 and the same month of last year.

During the four-week period, around £5.46 billion is said to have been spent on the web.

Meanwhile, consumers in Northern Ireland and across the UK may also be interested to hear that large online sales were notably seen on Christmas Day and Boxing Day of 2009, Retail Decisions for IMRG recently suggested.
