Wilson Nesbitt is the first NI law firm to gain a GDPR Certification

We're delighted to announce that Wilson Nesbitt has become the first Northern Ireland law firm to gain a Certification in GDPR, underlining our continuing commitment to protect the data of our clients.

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into force in Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK on 25th May 2018 with the goal of modernising the laws that protect the personal information of individuals. The regulations respond to the vulnerability of data in the modern digital world, and place obligations on businesses and bodies that handle personal information.

GDPR obligations are continually evolving, especially in light of technological advancements, and at Wilson Nesbitt we have undertaken a number of initiatives to strengthen our GDPR compliance strategy. We recently began the process of obtaining GDPR certification from compliance specialists Briefed. The certification process involved an in-depth audit of the firm's information governance and accountability, and the policies, procedures and controls in place to ensure compliant sharing of personal data. The goal was to assess and improve upon our current GDPR compliance measures, and we are grateful to Briefed for the insight provided by their experience and knowledge of dealing with the complexities of data protection legislation.

We are confident that the audit and review process has strengthened and improved our understanding of the GDPR risks that we as a legal firm face, and has resulted in improved implementation of GDPR policies and procedures throughout the firm in a manner which will further safe guard the data of our clients. We are delighted to obtain the GDPR Certification and are fully committed to the ongoing process of compliance to ensure client confidence in our ability to protect their best interests and their data.
