Council pays £800k in work accident claims

It has been revealed that East Sussex County Council has paid out £800,000 worth of compensation to employees over the last five years, including some rather bizarre injuries.

Some of the more unusual incidents that earned compensation payouts include the following:

  • £2000 for injury sustained whilst moving laptop
  • £6000 for employee who injured them-self while closing a window
  • £57,750 for worker injured by "defective equipment in bathroom"
  • £26000 for employee who slipped on ice in the car park
  • £1000 for worker injured while putting rubbish into a skip
  • £1575 for employee who was hit on the head by a car park barrier

Work accidents are a daily occurrence throughout Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK, and while some result in minor short-term injuries, other employees are not so lucky, and all too often there is a serious debilitating injury that occurs as a result of an accident that could have been avoided.
