Lawson-Saatchi divorce granted in under a minute

Nigella Lawson and Charles Saatchi were granted a divorce today at the London High Count in under a minute.

The couple were married in 2003 but their 10 year marriage ended almost overnight, after publication of photographs showing Mr Saatchi grasping his wife's throat at a restaurant. Domestic abuse campaigners quickly condemned the incident which Mr Saatchi tried to dismiss as a "playful tiff". Mrs Lawson remained quiet about the incident, and seemingly in response to her refusal to defend him, her husband announced publicly that they would divorce. Mrs Lawson filed the papers, which resulted in the decree nisi being issued today.

The divorce should be finalised in around 6 weeks when a decree absolute will be issued. The couple are thought to have a pre-nuptial agreement in place and have agreed not to make any details of their divorce settlement public.
